The Supermarine Spitfire is a single-seat fighter used by the Royal Air Force and other Allied countries during World World War II and through the 1950s. The Spitfire Mk IX was a new version with a two-stage supercharger Merlin engine using the Spitfire Mk VC airframe as a "stop-gap" version allowing the RAF to combat with the Fw 190 on equal terms.
