The UH-60A entered service with the U.S. Army in 1979, to replace the Bell UH-1 Iroquois as the Army's tactical transport helicopter and have been exported to several nations. After entering service, the helicopter was modified for mine laying and medical evacuation. The EH-60 was developed to conduct electronic warfare and the MH-60 was developed to support special operations missions.
