The Dornier Do 335 Pfiel was Nazi Germany's fastest piston-engined aircraft of World War II. It was characterized by its unusual engine placement. With its engines placed at each end of the fuselage it had a considerable reduction in drag which allowed for speeds in excess of 470 miles per hour. The Luftwaffe was desperate to get the design into operational use, but delays in engine deliveries meant that only a handful were delivered before the war ended.
